I’m Julia Weston, a mixed-media artist and art teacher living in Clevedon and working from my shedstudio in my back garden.
Currently my main media of choice is any form of printmaking by hand – monotypes both on and off the Gelliplate, stamp making & Tetrapak printing – and exploring different combinations of using these forms.
I also teach monotype printmaking and mixed media classes and short courses at Clevedon Craft Centre.
I take inspiration from a growing consciousness of what it is about life that lights me up – be it worn surfaces or repeated patterns or local beach weeds and I tend to become obsessed with an idea, which I then explore at length.
I’m entranced by frequent walks around the coast here: different times of day, the vibrant sunsets and ever changing moody skies are drawing my attention and I’m beginning to explore how to use this rich visual stimuli in my artworks.
I also regularly come back to working with botanicals, in rich layers of print, which are reminiscent of jungle like planting and the kind of garden we’re developing here at home.
