What?
Codename Octopus aims to promote sustainable arts and crafts. We provide a collaborative space with the support of courses to suit all levels of ability. Currently we can offer courses for print making, jewellery, drawing and soon ceramics.
We also provide facilities to those who wish to create independently by enabling the booking of facilities and workshop space.
We encourage and enable our students to progress to working independently by providing opportunities to sell their work through pop-up shows.
Who?
We are experienced creative practitioners, who are also teaching professionals within both higher and further education. This gives us the knowledge and understanding to mentor students through from initial beginner workshops to the creation of professional quality work.
Why?
Our aim is to create a marketplace that is an affordable alternative to mass produced products. By teaching art and craft skills we intend, through our courses, to encourage participants’ creativity and also their appreciation of other makers’ skills.
Alongside this the products produced will be high quality one-offs or small quantities of batch produced items. By promoting this form of making we aim to promote locally made arts and crafts.
